HIGH COMMISSIONER NAMED JOE BIDEN AWARD FOR CREDIT UNION DEVELOPMENT EDUCATOR FOR THE CARIBBEAN

LONDON, United Kingdon --High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK), Her Excellency Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, has been presented with the ‘Joe Biden Award for Development Educator of the Year 2014-2015’ for the Caribbean.

The award was made at the International Credit Union Leadership Development and Education Foundation’s awards Ceremony in London on Saturday, 14 November 2015. The High Commissioner was nominated by the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions.

High Commissioner Mrs. Ndombet-Assamba, who was also the special guest speaker at the award function, spoke of her lifelong connection with the credit union movement, which saw her becoming a credit union member as a teenager and her career at the City of Kingston Credit Union (COK), where she joined as legal officer and rose to the level of General Manager in 1994, a post she held until 2002.

She also spoke of the integral role that credit unions continue to play in the social and economic development of Jamaica, noting that 60 percent of the adult population or more than 920,000 Jamaicans were members of a credit union.

The Joe Biden Awards were one of the highlight of the ceremony. The award is named after the US Vice President in recognition of his support of the credit union movement and his co-sponsorship of legislation which allowed for a million dollar annual grant to private voluntary organisations in the USA.

This award is the second to be presented to the High Commissioner this year. In July she received the 2015 World Council of Credit Unions Distinguished Services Award (DSA) at a special ceremony in Denver, Colorado

I am  not really inclined into writing because  I am not good  into it.  All that is written came from the heart. Facebook  coversation just evolve  in saying  good morning, good afternoon  until one time he did share to me  one of his god given talent.

It was  just normal to me  to  share it in my Facebook.    Until  this  morning, that  I was  informed  that my province mate took  the effort to see  him  for   the purpose  of  fixing his eye  problem.  the  patient  almost lost his self confidence.  In a  world  like us that  we  always  encountered  people  who are subjective  to our physical  appearances indeed,  having an  eye  problem   would  greatly contribute to  such lossing  part of  our  self esteem.  Thank  you  for  in  our modern  times we  can  fix  things  with the  noble  intent  to  restore  in us the  belief  that  trusting  GOD  and  trusting  his  creation  life  can  change  for the better.

SURGE: Scaling Up Resilience in Governance by: Jose Allan S. Bartolo

San Jose, Antique --SURGE: Media Practitioners in the province of Antique from Print, Broadcast and TV gathered for Media Coordination Meeting. This is in line with the Scaling Up Resilience in Governance. This is a preparatory activities for SURGE Media Advocacy and Participation Training on Disaster Risk Reduction involving the Tri-Media organizations. Professor Jorge S. Ebay Focal Person and from the University of the Philippines Visayas Foundation expressed optimism for an active Media Participation in the Upcoming Activities.

Scaling Up Resilience in Governance (SURGE) Project aims to increase resilience of High-risk communities in the Philippines. It extends inclusive community-based disaster risk reduction (ICBDRR) to more  communitites and advocates improvements in disaster risk management policies and practices.

Community projects reach P56.3M
COMMUNITY projects implemented under the Department of Social Welfare and Development Bottom-up Budgeting program have reached P56.3 million in cost.
Records of DSWD regional office shows that of the amount, P34.7 million was disbursed for Iloilo Province; Aklan, P6.3 million; Capiz, P4 million; Negros Occidental, P4 million; Antique, P3.6 million; and Guimaras, P3.5 million.

BUB is an approach to the preparation of the agency budget proposals, taking into consideration the development needs of the cities and municipalities as identified by their respective local poverty reduction action plans that are formulated with the strong participation of basic sector organizations and other civil society organizations.

This strategy is implemented in pursuit of attaining the Philippine Development Plan’s goal of inclusive growth and poverty reduction and promoting good governance at the local level.
In Iloilo Province, projects include construction of day care centers, drainage canal, crisis centers for women and Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL); road concreting, construction of drainage canal, and provision of learning materials on Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD).

In Aklan, projects are construction of day care centers and improvement and concreting of roads.
In Capiz, these are construction of day care centers and provision of materials on ECCD.
In Negros Occidental, projects are construction of day care centers, Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) and crisis center and communal irrigation system. office of Person

On the other hand, projects in Antique are construction of day care centers, provision of ECCD materials, provision of sewing machines, and a livelihood project on motorcycle spare parts and lubricants.
In Guimaras, projects are construction of day care centers and crisis center for women and children.

BUB is jointly implemented by the national government in partnership with the LGUs, specifically the Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Budget and Management, National Anti-Poverty Commission, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Health, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Education, Department of Labor and Employment, DSWD, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Tourism, National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), National Irrigation Authority, National Commission on Indigenous People Technical Educations Skills Development Authority, Department of Energy and National Electrification Administration.
