SAN JOSE, Antique – The agrarian reform communities (ARC) in Valderrama town will soon avail of irrigation facilities and farm to market roads.
These agricultural support facilities, according to Lucia Macavinta, information officer of the Department of Agrarian Reform, will benefit agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in the town of Valderrama, Antique, located about 52 kms northeast of San Jose.
In a pre-implementation meeting called for by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) headed by Marlyn Salvani, provincial agrarian reform officer, the mechanics of project implementation under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP)-Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Project III (ARISP) was discussed among partner agencies.
Salvani said the project will not only boost agricultural productivity in the area but also strengthen economic activity and food security.
Communal irrigation systems and farm-to-market roads will be established in Barangays Buluangan I and II in the said town in the amount of more than P10 million which will support agricultural productivity and provide access of farm products and agricultural inputs of farmers, said Macavinta. More than 55 ARBs are expected to benefit from the project.
Macavinta said the National Irrigation Administration will also undertake the rehabilitation of the communal irrigation system in Canipayan, Valderrama to include rehab of pedestrian bridge from the national road to small farm reservoir in the amount of about P.5 million benefitting 22 ARBs.
Rehabilitation of farm-to-market roads in Barangays Buluangan I, Bongsod and Manlacbo, Valderrama will also be undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways in the amount of P1.5 million.
With the meeting of partner agencies, local government unit of Valderrama and central project management office of DAR, smooth implementation of the project is expected which will start as soon as the funds are made available by the implementing agencies. –JCM/PSM/PIA6 Antique
