PSWDO to open center for abused children, women
SAN JOSE, Antique — The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) will soon open the “Pagsapupo Center” to children and women who are victims of abuse and trafficking.
The new center in Brgy. Cerdeña Street here is situated in a 640-square meter lot donated by the Department of Education to the provincial government way back in April 2000.
It will provide comprehensive and integrated social services in the protection, rehabilitation and development of children and women.
It is where they will be provided with psychosocial intervention to maximize and develop their full potentials and restore their self-worth.
The PSWDO will ensure a home-like atmosphere in the center to help victims overcome their traumatic experiences, and provide healing and rehabilitation for their eventual return to their families.
The facility was realized upon the passage of Provincial Ordinance No. 2003-019 — sponsored by then Provincial Board member now Vice Gov. Rosie Dimamay — in 2003, and with financial support from Sen. Loren Legarda.
Gov. Exequiel Javier and former Gov. Sally Perez also contributed in the completion of the project.
The center will be inaugurated on March 28 at 9 a.m. along with culminating the Women’s Month celebration.
Pagsapupo is a Kinaray-a term that means “to take care of.” (PIA/PN)
